Nisa International has won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for the second time. This is in recognition of its outstanding and continuous achievement in international trade.

Winners were announced today on Her Majesty’s birthday. The Awards are given solely on merit and competition is fierce.

Sean Ramsden, Managing Director commented:

“I am delighted and extremely proud that we have won the Award for the second time in 5 years. This recognition is the highest praise any business can receive. To receive it twice is exceptional.”

Nisa International received its first Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2004. The award is granted to businesses that have shown outstanding and sustained growth over the past six years. Winning the award again in 2009 demonstrates over 10 years of world-class success.

It is another high compliment to the company. In November, Nisa International also won the Chamber of Commerce awards for Business of the Year and, Achievement in International Business.

It is the most prestigious award that a UK business can win. The awards are made each year by The Queen, on the advice of the Prime Minister, who is assisted by an Advisory Committee that includes representatives of Government, industry and commerce, and trade unions.

30/01/2009

English language books and greeting cards are two new ranges that give you the opportunity to gain extra sales from your current customers and the potential to attract new ones. Remember, these will appeal to all English speakers, not just your British customers.

Both ranges are easy to manage. In fact, you don’t have to select specific card designs or authors/titles. Category experts do this for you. Just select a greeting cards and/or book package.

Books

There is nothing quite like immersing yourself in a good book, and your customers may appreciate being able to buy some entertainment along with their groceries. There are three categories to choose from: paperback best selling novels, adult puzzle books, and children’s activity books – something for everyone.

Greeting cards

Did you know that on average, people in the UK send 55 cards per year and the industry is worth around more than tea and coffee sales combined?

From a minimum of 30 square cm floor space, you could potentially earn a 50 per cent gross profit margin from these greeting cards.

Love is in the air!

20/01/2009

Valentine’s Day is an annual custom when people express love for their significant other. Greeting cards and gifts are usually exchanged between couples. There is often an opportunity for you to help your customers who are looking for a love token such a nice box of chocolates, some luxury bath oil, or even ingredients for a romantic dinner.

Who is St Valentine?

Legend has it that St Valentine was a Roman who was martyred for refusing to give up Christianity. He died on February 14, 269 AD Legend also says that St Valentine left a farewell note for the jailer's daughter, who had become his friend, and signed it "From Your Valentine". In 496 AD Pope Gelasius set aside February 14 to honour St Valentine.

If you didn’t pre-order specific Valentine’s Day stock, here are some gift ideas you can order that are perfect for your customer’s romantic evening:

• Green & Black’s Organic Luxury Chocolate Assortment 200g (Speciality range)
• Shepcote Marzipan Fruits 200g (Speciality range)
• Booja Booja Gourmet Truffle Selection 220G (Speciality range)
• Thorntons Premium Collection 227g (Ambient range)
• Cadbury Milk Tray 400g (Ambient range)
• Radox Heavenly Bath Velvet Red 250ml (Ambient range)

Extra advice for your customers

When it comes to cooking for the one you love, advise your customers to cook a light meal. After all everyone (but especially women) find it difficult to get in the romantic mood when feeling bloated.

Burn’s Night Celebrations

09/01/2009

Do you have British, in particular Scottish customers? If so, you may want to promote Burn’s Night in your store.

A Burns supper is a celebration of the life and poetry of the poet Robert Burns, author of many famous Scottish poems. Burn’s Night takes place on the Poets birthday, 25th January, and has done since the year of his death at the end of the 18th Century.

The historic feast traditionally begins with the Scottish national dish Haggis, but also includes other foods such mashed potatoes and Neeps (mashed swede), followed by Cranachan (a Scottish dessert). Here is a list of products you could promote:

• Baxters Cock-a-Leekie Soup (Ambient range)
• Grants Haggis (Ambient range) or McKechnie Jess Haggis (Chilled range)
• Heritage Double Cream (Chilled range)
• Heritage Porridge Oats (Ambient range)
• Gales Pure Honey (Ambient range)
• Heritage Diced Swede (Frozen range)
• Tate & Lyle Light Soft Brown Sugar (Ambient range)
• Shearway Raspberries (Frozen range)

Below is a recipe for Cranachan, a favourite Scottish dessert often served on Burn’s night, which you could pass on to your customers.

60g of medium oatmeal
150g of raspberries
4 tablespoons of malt whisky
4 tablespoons of runny honey
600ml of double cream
A little soft brown sugar

1. Scatter the oatmeal and a little soft brown sugar onto a baking tray and toast in a low oven or under the grill until they become golden brown. Stand and watch this because they can easily and quickly burn.
2. Blend 50g of the raspberries in the liquidiser until they become smooth.
3. Whip the double cream until a stiff mixture forms, then stir in the honey and the whisky and mix well.
4. Fold in 50g of the toasted oatmeal then fold in 50g of the raspberry puree. A rippled effect should be achieved.
5. Spoon the mixture into tall glasses or individual serving dishes. Gently scatter the remaining oatmeal and raspberries on the top of each dish.
6. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

“Nisa International is a business that stands out from the crowd. The competition was really tough. Making it to the shortlist is hard enough, but winning at the national level is a huge achievement.”

Mr Reyner added: “Trading overseas is not for the faint hearted. It takes a great deal of vision, skill, and tenacity to make it work. Nisa International excels in all these qualities, making it a clear winner for this award.”
